How can I use TTY for the deaf?
I know this is a stupid question, but I am new to tty. Is it necessary to regulate analog telephone service? I have always used Sorenson VRS in the past never tty. I have a new machine Ultratec TTY SuperPrint 4425. Is that a TTY machine good?
Regular analog telephone service is fine. Here is a PDF file and use good common abbreviations: http://www.ncdhh.ne.gov/brochures/how_to_tty_broch.pdf You can call directly to another phone and all types text for a deaf person, or dial 711 to access the relay service to contact a hearing person. If you can talk but not listen, you can request the relay service VCO (Voice Carry Over). That lets you talk directly with an audience group, then place the handset back in the cradle and the relay agent types just what they say back to you. It is much easier for you than having to write everything. If you are calling can talk but not listen, you can activate VCO at its end and talk directly with you (if you can hear). It is also possible to request privacy VCO, then the agent of transmission, VCO silenced so that the other party can hear them, but the agent can not.
