Is it better to use wooden keys or metal straps when preparing residentail homes?

In a new house is better to use wooden boats between joits floor ceiling or is better to use metal straps?

I can not tell the difference after the sub-floor is down. If you have drops from the rafters after court, why not use instead of throwing away.If no drops, the belts are cheaper and faster over all.
