Is ionic Detox Foot spas a scam or detoxify the body?

I purchased an Ionic Detox Foot Spa on Ebay. I and the water became Dark Brown. I gave my brother detox foot and was impressed. He said he wanted one and then set about investigating and said it was a scam. That does nothing involving detoxification. Please help. I spent a lot of money on it. Thank you. Scott
