Problems using self-adhesive drywall finishing tape…need advice…?
My fiancee and I are attacking our second drywalling project. The first time we did our ceiling in the livingroom…and used regular paper joint tape. As time passed, we noticed air pockets appearing along the joints…as if the tape didn’t stick very well (or was coming un-done) Now we are doing our entire bedroom…and were steered toward using self-adhesive joint tape(drywall finishing tape)…hoping to solve our taping problems. Now that we have much of the joints taped with this stuff (and 2 coats of lightweight…not quick setting… joint compound on) we are already noticing that the tape is pulling away from the walls. (like air pockets along the joints) What are we doing wrong?
1st of all are you making sure the drywall edges are butted tight together Do not expect tape or joint compound to fill the gaps without bubbling if you have gaps between sheets or pieces of drywall use a thick type of spackling compound 1st let dry then use tape and “mud” joint compound
