Is there a smart water system similar to the smart grid electricity, but instead of water?

In development, perhaps. A smart grid can easily control the energy use of each building, and even, possibly, communicate and interact with things connected [of phone charging ie plugged into the wall idle network recognizes and closes off an outlet for energy saving which is being used unnecessarily]. That was all explained to my question if something like this out there, in the process of being out there (of development), or even the ideas of this being out there in relation with water [ie, monitoring usage of water and that the connection back to a possible system for most of the costs of energy effective use of water needed without losing?

You would have to spend lots of money put into the implementation of water users (bath, faucet, garden hose, etc.), and then run electric power to them, and additional energy use and then put each user powered actuators to reduce its size or off, and use of control valves (more expensive, more maintenance, and more power). This is not accomplished nothing more than pure control at the expense of much more money and use of resources. Sounds like something the government could reach!
