The money the BCCI is spending on players from other countries is not going to do any good for our country.?
Instead the sponsors should come out to support other sports like Hockey, Football, Swimming, Athletics so that India could come somewhere near international level. It is sheer wastage of money. We cant pay anything to our athletes,hockey players, Soccer player but we can pay $50000 to cricket player for playing single cricket match, such a ridiculous thing.
You have to look at it from the perspective of what generate cash. It’s like in the UK, the predominant sport is football… about 95% of the male population love the game. And some of the top players make more that £100,000 a week ($200,000) – and that is excluding sponsorships! In India cricket is huge and the BCCI is the board for cricket in India. And just like football is a huge business in the UK and basketball is a huge business in the States, cricket is a huge business in India – and the point of most businesses is to generate profits… and the BCCI has just found another method through the IPL. They have however put in rules and restrictions like limiting the amount of overseas players and making sure a certain number of younger players are used in the squad that actually goes out to play to allow the youngsters to show their potential.
