rheumatoid arthritis is an auto-immune condition where the body thinks that certain tissues, including joints, are foreign and attacks them. Certain infections may increase the risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis, but rheumatoid arthritis can occur as a result of genetic predisposition. HLA-B27 and HLA-DR4 are predisposing factors to Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and other autoimmune diseases.

Rheumatoid Arthritis can be treated using systemic corticosteroids that reduce the bodies immune response. Side effects are Weight Gain, increase risk of infections, among others. NSAIDs are also used to decrease inflammation. Chronic use of NSAIDs may cause gastric ulcers.
