Ramp Scooter
What is the right place for a wheelchair / scooter ramp.?
My door is 26 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, and the scooter, probably weighs less than 200 pounds
ADA requirements are a slope of 1 "rise for every 12" of run. This makes a huge ramp in the case of 26 feet long. Gentle slope will allow a person in a wheelchair to make the slope without assistance. That said, you may not need much. Electric wheelchairs and scooters list, the maximum slope that can operate to a certain weight. From this personal property may not obliged to accession to the requirements of ADA. I built one here in California to enter into a trailer. We were able to use a 2 in 12 slope (which reduces the length of the half). If you have the room, using the least slope, but this can not happen all the time. There are other requirements that must continue. Handrails are required, and landings, if the ramp must turn corners, to get the length requred. With regard to materials, the concrete is always the best, but may be of wood (to attach the railing / banister at the bottom is tricky).
