How does an adjustable piston stool / chair of the employment office?
Hi, Can anyone tell me or better yet, tell me a link showing how the piston in an office chair height adjustment? I need this for my school course of product design. Thank you.
It is a gas cylinder which has an internal piston that compresses a gas at a pressure higher than when the weight is placed on it. A friction clamp to hold the piston rod in a defined position is the height selector. A mild spring gives a little cushion when a person sits in the chair. If the chair is too low, the release lever friction clamp, allowing the piston up, raise the chair against the weight of the chair. If a person is sitting in the chair at the time, the pressure of gas against the piston is not sufficient, and the chair falls.
