Neck Traction

What are the chances of a person who dislocate her CV-3 is not equipped with any kind of ortho. equipment?

I saw a friend at a hospital the other day, just next to her is another patient and they both had a similar problem which is bone dislocation on Cervical Vertebrae 3. The other patient was equipped with a Halo Vest. My friend didn’t and only after 10 days the doctor put traction for her neck the doctor says she fine? The question is, what is the chances of her getting another injury for not being equipped with any kinds of colar or that sort when i thougth she is still in a healing period?

While both ladies may have injured C-3, there are different degrees to which they can be injured…was there a fracture on one side, both sides of the vertebral arch, was there displacement of the vertebral body, was there cord compression, etc? These all have different implications for treatment, and it is the job the spinal neurosurgeon to determine which type of treatment is the most appropriate and safe. The fact that she does not have a halo does not necessarily imply that she is more prone to injury…she probably injured it in a little different way than her roommate. Yet, this is certainly a good question for her to ask the neurosurgeon.
