My son has asthma….hasnt had symptoms in a couple months, now all of a sudden, hes had 4 attacks in a week?

My son is 7. He was diagnosed with asthma at 3, but had had the symptoms since about 18 months. He was on several preventative meds and an albuteral neb and inhalor. At his 6 year well check, hed been doing great and they took him off of everything but singulair. He just turned 7, and hasnt had an asthma attack since like, February. His main symtom is coughing (so hard and for so long that he usually vomits). He also usually only has symptoms in the winter when its cold. BUt all of a sudden, hes had 4 attacks in a week. He even vomited in his bed last night. Its been warm here (colorado) and its very unusual for him to have symptoms during the summer. He has his next well check a week from today. But i was wondering if he should be seen before that? Or is there anything I can do until then to ease his symptoms? Other than the nebulizer, hes been using that and it only helps for a few hours. Hes also very fatigued. Please, no RUDE suggestions. I have a dr appointment.

My son has had asthma for about 6 years now and one of the most important things for him is to continuously take his maintainance inhaler everyday (qvar). He also has an rescue inhaler and a nebulizer and his symptoms sound very similar to your sons. I would suggest asking for a different maintainance inhaler such as Qvar because it is absorbed better than Singulair. Most likely the doctor will perscribe predisone for seven days at a graduated dosage. This will help strengthen his lungs and reduce the time of the excerbation. Also ask your doctor for a an aerochamber and a peak flow meter. Just remember that no matter how good someone does, that asthma never goes away. Also try registering for an Asthma camp for your son, they will teach him ways to manage and deal with asthma and it was very helpful for my son. Hang in there!
