Dental implants comprise of 2 parts, the fixture and the fitting. The fixture is the main part and the centre of how the dental implant works. The fixture is where a small but strong titanium screw is placed into your jaw bone where the missing root of the tooth is.
Over time the bone of the jaw will start to fuse to the screw and therefore giving it an even stronger fitting than it had before. When the implant has been fixed into place and the dentist feels that it is now strong enough to hold the fitting in place, the crown can now be fixed on top of the screw.
The fitting is most commonly a ceramic or porcelain crown. The crown is designed specifically to mirror what your old tooth looked like, and to fit in with the surrounding teeth, so as not to look out of place. The dental implant is not just there to Help Your mouth to look more aesthetically pleasing, it is also there to improve the functionality of your mouth and help you regain a quality of life you once missed.
