knee pain diagnosis

knee pain diagnosis
4 month old knee pain…?

During a soccer game about for or five months ago i hurt my knee. It happened when i took a hard step to the right and there was no bounce in the step. it felt like my thigh bone and my shin collided. ever since then there has been a sharp pain right behind my kneecap, inside the joint, whenever i walk for an extended or if i run. walking up stairs hurts too.

i went to the doctor and the athletic trainer at school, they couldnt diagnose me exactly but they narrowed it down a bit, the one they both said was torn miniscus.

If you could help me choose wether an MRI should be done, or just help the diagnosis, it would be much appreciated.
there was little if any swelling and the trainer said it is the inner part of the of the meniscus if anything.

Get the MRI. If it is a torn meniscus, it’s best not to wait too long to get it taken care of. It will only get worse with time, and you’ll find that your knee will become more and more unstable and it will probably start locking up. If you have to have surgery, this is one of the better surgeries as it has a fairly fast recovery rate. It’s generally done as in and out surgery so you’ll be home that same day. You may spend a day or two on crutches, or you may not need them at all.

The MRI will let you know one way or the other if it is, indeed, a torn meniscus. If it’s not, you may be able to get by with physical therapy rather than surgery. If you’ve been having pain for 4 or 5 months, you really should get it checked out so that you don’t do more damage to your knee. See an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine if you have one in your area.

Good luck. It sucks having knee pain.
