Have you EVER encountered medical staff ANYwhere with customer service skills?

I’m not sure if they’re socially inept or just never learned common courtesy or manners. And when did silently folding your arms across your chest and leaning back in your chair come to mean, “Alright, VA Girl, here is your receipt. Thank you and see you in six weeks.”?

I have to say, I was one of the few Medical Receptionists, who did have good customer service skills. Our patients loved me, because I would explain everything to them, I would listen to them, and write down their symptoms for the Dr. and Nurse. I always did what I could when a patient couldn’t afford to pay, as well as the Dr. I worked for. I was also lucky enough to work for a very compassionate Dr. who appreciated me, and let me know. Positive re-enforcement goes a long way.

It used to drive me nuts when I worked in the hospital, and would get someone on the phone, who had already been transferred 4 times, because nobody wanted to take the time to make sure they got to the right place in the 1st place. I would simply put them on hold, and call around, until I found the person that could help them. It wasn’t so hard, and I worked on the busiest unit in the hospital.

So, there are the rare few of us who do have customer service skills these days.
