To illuminate my room to mimic the light of day?

I have created some of the objects in a still life painting. I decided that the installation is best when it is indirect sunlight. But I'm at work during the day and you can not paint until the evening. I tried to use a desk lamp, but the light seemed hard compared to the sun filtering through my window.
