Hong Kong International Airport: the entrance to Hong Kong

Starting as a humble fishing village on the banks of the Pearl River Delta, Hong Kong has grown rapidly in the spectacular economic and business. Colonized by the British in the early years, the small colony became a commercial port more important in Asia. As it has evolved over the years, its focus shifted toward trade and financial institutions to become home to large corporations international, such as Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation.

In his early years as a city of trade, vessels were the only way to reach Hong Kong. Its central location and popularity of trade attracted merchants and visitors from around the world. Even after the advent of air transport, does not diminish his popularity. His rapidly developing into one of the largest airport sites in Asia, with many flights from the Middle East and the West.

International Airport Hong Kong (HKIA) has lived two lives, the evolution from its humble roots to become the fourth busiest airport in the world. Originally located on Kowloon Island, Kai Tak International Airport was the first Hong Kong International Airport. Originating as a military airbase and private airfield of personal aircraft, the airport grew over the years to become one of the busiest airports in the world from the 70s onwards, sometimes double handling of cargo and passengers to mean't for.

In the late 90's the modern airport ambitious plans were set in place by the government of Hong Kong to build a state of the art to cope with the constant flow of people and goods to and from Hong Kong. Chek Lap Kok on the island was chosen as the location for the new international airport. In 1998, Chek Lap Kok International Airport was opened to the world.

HKIA Terminal 2 is home to Sky and Sky Plaza Pier. Sky Plaza is a multitude of shops and entertainment services that compete with some of the biggest malls in the world. Offering everything from designer clothes to the latest electronic and whatever your heart desires can be found at the Sky Plaza.

The Sky Pier is a ferry terminal that connects retail HKIA Hong Kong and its neighboring islands. This allows locals and tourists unimpeded access via road, rail and ferry to enjoy the wonderful entertainment options HKIA.

Terminal 1 is the world's largest building of the passenger terminal in the world. Unlike his brother (Terminal 2), Terminal 1 has a large shopping mall, topped with a food court surrounded by trendy restaurants offering a variety of local food from international cuisine.

But that is all to ensure passengers and visitors are kept busy, HKIA has its own golf course of nine holes. Here visitors can relax and play a round of golf while enjoying the incredible views of the ocean and Hong Kong Island.
