Is Cannabis a Medicine or Abused Drug?
Cannabis is found to be the commonly used drug in the world. Cannabis, widely known as marijuana, is been consumed by humans since prehistoric times. Due to the rise in its usage in 20th century, this drug was declared illegal in many parts of the world. Though the drug is found to be useful in treatment of many medical disorders, there are many other factors, which compel us to consider it as an abused drug.

Recent studies have proved that the drug can be efficacious in treating mental health issues like depression, anxiety, attention-deficit disorder, anorexia, etc. It is also used to cure physical health issues like migraine, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, Glaucoma, etc. Cannabis is generally used as analgesia and is an effective painkiller.
Cannabis Abuse
Cannabis is the most commonly abused drug in the world. Smoking is the most common and harmful method of Cannabis consumption. Cannabis is smoked using equipment like chillums, bowls, blunts, etc. Using a Vaporizer is another method of consumption. Apart from this Cannabis is consumed orally by chewing or by mixing into beverages like tea or coffee. Cannabis is available in different forms like hashish, hash oil, resin, kief, etc.
Effects of Cannabis abuse on Health
The most effective psychoactive substance in Cannabis is ?9-tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. The short-term psychoactive effects due to consumption of cannabis include increased heart rate, lowered Blood Pressure, and impairment of cognitive functioning. Smoking of cannabis is more dangerous than smoking tobacco. This is because the cannabis smoke contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons, 20 times more ammonia, 5 times more hydrogen cyanide and nitrogen oxides more than tobacco smoke. Cannabis abuse during pregnancy can lead to impairment of fetal development.
It is proved that Cannabis can be used to treat many medical ailments effectively. However, some people use it for psychoactive purposes like euphoria, sensual relaxation, etc, and consequently they face adverse affects of this drug. Cannabis is almost like any other medical drug, which yields adverse effects, when used though not required.
