Twins with 1 heart beat?
Has anyone had a fetal heart beat monitor done at the drs office and only heard one heart beat when there are 2 babies. I am 13 weeks and already look as big as I was at 4 months with my son. I am just curious. It’s hard to explain but I have just had a feeling that I have either twins or a girl. The fetal heart beat was 161. My Morning Sickness was horrible altough starting to fade now and I am exhausted all the time!
I am just curious what you all had for experiences with this! Thanks.
It’s entirely possible to hear only one heartbeat: the babies’ hearts could be beating simultaneously, or (more likely) one of the babies might be in an odd spot where the doctor didn’t think to listen. Before the days of widespread ultrasound, twin pregnancies were often not detected for precisely this reason. My mother was constantly being told that she was fat, that she had gained too much weight, etc. etc. When she went into labor prematurely, they still didn’t have a clue. It was only after they did an x-ray (she had been in labor for 13 hours with no result) that they figured out there were two of us. Gave my dad the surprise of his life…
This is definitely something to talk to your doctor about. An ultrasound will quickly reveal what’s going on, and knowing sooner can definitely help prevent complications if it turns out you are having twins.
