Type 1 diabetes, can you hae sugar?
My boyfriend has type 1 diabetes, we have only been going out a month but in a month and a hlaf its my sweet 16 and I was thinking of having a “sweet” theme with lots of puddings and sweets and stuff. However I wont do this if he won’t be able to join in on the fun becasue of sugar. Ive seen him having diet cola before and also eating a brownie but apart from that i cant think of times when he has had sugararound me. I feel stupid asking him becasue we have been going out a month and i really should know considering its such a big part of his life. He wears one of those bayer things so he can moniter his Blood Sugar and he doesnt need to inject himself. Please can someone tell me if you are allowed sugar as a type 1 diabetic and would it be insenstive to have this party, I really do like him and I want him there at my party so help please?
Type one diabetics are able to eat anything they want. Just as long as someone takes enough insulin to cover the amount of carbohydrates they want to eat, it’s fine.
However, why don’t you ask him what he would think of it? Chances are, he’d be glad to participate in the celebration and would be able to eat whatever he wants (especially because he wears an insulin pump). It still might be a good thing to check with him, if this is what you want.
