How do I delete a very tight (up type) bathtub drain cover?
I was trying to clean my tub and realized the drain cover was dirty. When I lifted the drain plug it came out. Two of the 4 members of the Cross participation broke and now can not remove the spent Assembly. Insertion of the handles of the pliers will not move, the drain cover at all. Its too tight. Could it be because of plumber's putty? Please help.
They can get corroded and difficult to remove. It is screwed into the drain that is in the bathtub. Depending tub in the age of your words, the part that is below may be metal – newest are plastic and do not corrode. The only way out is to get the metal part of the leak can be seen by unscrewing it – Counterclockwise. If the piece of 'cross' is broken and can not exercise in turn, the only way I know to start prying it out is carefully out. Once you start this, you have to finish the job or the bathtub drain and there is no turning back. If the damage of the workpiece in the bath, the tub has to go to replace the part, or if a wood floor with access below the ceiling of the tub has to be removed. It is no small task. You may want to call a plumber to fix this. He may only have enough experience to get it out in one piece.
