ankle arthritis
i had xrays last week on my ankle, doc phoned me today said i had arthritis in it. i broke it back in 2000.?

its felt weak for years, now after these xrays hes says over the phone its really bad arthritis. what does this mean? will it get worse? will the pain get worse? can i excercise it? any foods good to eat? sorry theres loads of questions there
p.s im 31 Yrs Old and ive also twisted the same ankle about 5 times really bad! maybe i should just chop it off!

You need to look at this from multiple angles. One how much do you weigh? If you are overweight then dropping weight will reduce the stress on the joint. Do you wear high heels? If so stop as this places a large stress and shear force on the ankle. You state that the ankle has been twisted around five times. That means that the ligaments are stretched and perhaps don’t even function properly. You need to do exercises to keep the ankle strong and as functional as possible. For that I suggest that you see a physical therapist. They will help with exercises for this. Also doing water exercises and the use of a recumbent bike would also be helpful. As for supplements try fish oils. Work up with them to a point around three grams a day. This is the only supplement that I know helps with the ankle. Also while you are in therapy they should be able to show you how to tape your own ankle to help stabilize it. Whatever you do don’t let it get stiff. Use ice for pain. This can be done with a large basin filled with ice and water or direct ice applied to the area for fifteen to twenty minutes.
